Ch 5

Elara felt them before she saw them. The bond flared. The heat spiked. The soul pulsed. Morana's wings snapped open. Her tail coiled tight. Her horns gleamed. Her amber eyes darkened.

"Voices," she murmured. "Holy voices. Steel voices. Blood voices."

Elara rose. Her body ached. Her soul hummed. She dressed in her habit, not out of duty, but out of habit. She fastened her harness. She picked up her blade. It felt different now. Lighter. Duller. The engravings meant nothing. The steel meant nothing. The bond meant everything.

Morana stood before her. Wings spread. Tail coiled. Horns gleaming. Her futa anatomy was still full, still heavy, still marked by violet veins that pulsed in time with their hearts. She looked at Elara. Her eyes burned.

"They will try to unmake me," Morana murmured. "They will try to unmake you. They will call it salvation. I call it theft."

Elara's breath shuddered. She reached out. She touched Morana's chest. She felt the pulse. She felt the bond. She felt the truth.

"Let them try," she whispered. "I am claimed. I am consort. I am yours."

Morana's wings folded tight. Her tail coiled tighter. Her eyes burned with something that looked dangerously like reverence. She leaned in. She kissed Elara. It was slow. Deep. Consuming. It tasted of smoke and spice and something profoundly sweet. It tasted of forever.

Then she stepped back. She rose. She spread her wings. She let her tail coil loose. She let her horns gleam. She let her futa anatomy pulse.

"Come," she murmured. "Show them what you are."

The crypt doors burst open.

Silas stepped through. Brother Silas. Her former trainer. Her confessor. Her friend. He was older now. Gray in his beard. Hard in his eyes. His hands bore calluses from years of gripping steel and vellum. His belt held vials, salt, a curved blade etched with Psalms.

Behind him stood three hunters. Younger. Harder. Eyes full of duty. Eyes full of fear.

"Sister Vance," Silas said, his voice rough, thick with something that sounded like grief. "Step away from the thing. It has corrupted you. It has bound you. It has stolen your soul."

Elara rose. She did not flinch. She did not bow. She stood tall. Her habit fell straight. Her blade hung loose. Her eyes were steady. Her voice was calm.

"It has not stolen my soul," she said. "It has returned it. I am not corrupted. I am consecrated. I am not bound. I am claimed. I am not lost. I am home."

Silas's eyes darkened. His hand went to his blade. "You are deluded. The succubus feeds on desire. It traps you in flesh. It strips you of divinity. Step away. Now."

Morana stepped forward. Wings spread. Tail coiled. Horns gleaming. Her voice was smooth, dark, threaded with something that made the hunters' breath hitch. "You speak of divinity, little monk. But you do not know divinity. You know fear. You know rules. You know the comfort of sealed doors and empty beds. You do not know what it is to be whole. To be claimed. To be loved beyond the bounds of stone and scripture."

Silas raised his blade. "Bind her. Banish her. Break the bond."

He chanted. Latin. Sharp. Precise. The hunters raised their hands. Vials shattered. Salt flew. Holy water hissed. The air shimmered.

Morana did not flinch. She merely smiled. Then she exhaled.

A breath of hellfire.

Not destructive. Not scorching. Warm. Golden. It washed over them like a summer breeze, carrying the scent of sandalwood and crushed roses and something deeper, older, primal. The salt hissed and died. The holy water evaporated. The engravings on their blades dulled. Their breaths shuddered. Their knees locked.

"Leave," Morana murmured. "Now. Or I will unmake you. Not in death. In silence. In emptiness. In the hollow where your desire used to live."

Silas's hand trembled. His blade lowered. His eyes filled with tears. "Elara," he whispered. "Please. Come home."

Elara's breath shuddered. She looked at him. She saw the man she once was. The girl she once was. The vows she once kept. She felt love for him. She felt pity. She felt sorrow.

But she did not flinch.

"I am home," she whispered. "I have always been home. With her."

She turned. She stepped back. She pressed herself against Morana. She felt her wings wrap around them. She felt her tail coil around her waist. She felt her horns lower until their tips brushed her forehead. She felt the bond pulse. The heat deepened. The fire poured.

Silas lowered his blade. He turned. He walked. His hunters followed. Their footsteps faded. The crypt doors closed. The silence returned.

"Done," Morana murmured. "The claiming is absolute. The bond is sealed. The consort is claimed. Forever."

Elara's breath shuddered. She reached up. She touched Morana's horns. They were warm. Smooth. Real. She traced the curve. She felt the pulse beneath. She felt the bond answer.

"Yes," Elara whispered. "Yes. I accept."
